Nowadays, there are many possible reasons for your home computer is running slow. Here are some ways you can use to help get your Windows 10 PC boot faster.
Way 1: Get rid of malware
Windows 10 comes bundled with anti-virus software, dubbed Windows Defender. Running a full scan of the operating system with either Microsoft's offering or your favorite third-party anti-virus should do the trick. You can use an anti-virus scan to remove malware from your computers.
Way 2: Access Windows 10's Startup Manager
We'll find this feature in the Task Manager.
- To open it, right-click the Taskbar or long-press on it with touch and then select Task Manager.
- Also you can press Ctrl + Shift + Escape to open the Task Manager directly, or press Ctrl + Alt + Delete and click Task Manager.
- Default, the Task Manager just shows a list of open programs, so you'll need to click "More details" after opening it.
- Click the Startup tab after accessing the Task Manager's full interface.
Way 3: Optimize start-up
- Alternatively, you can also reboot your computer and hold Windows Key + R when the desktop appears.
- Enter services.msc in the Run dialog box.
- Check the services that appear to prolong the launch up time and set them to delayed start.
Way 4: Disable Startup Programs on Windows 10
The startup-program manager is easy to understand than other startup program managers.
- Run Task Manager by pressing and holding the Ctrl, Shift and Esc keys.
- Select the Startup tab.
- Check out the impact rating of different startup programs and you'll see the name of a program along with its application icon at the left, and the program's publisher name to the right of that.
- You'll also see the "Startup impact" of each startup program. If you see "Not measured," that's because it was recently added and Windows hasn't had a chance to observe the program's behavior yet.
- Reboot your computer and you'll see an impact appear.
- To disable a program, click it and click the Disable button — or right-click it and click Disable.
Disable is not easy, some programs are obvious and additional programs will be less obvious, especially system utilities and driver-related software that came with your computer. Much of this manufacturer-installed junkware is unnecessary, but you may want to do a bit of quick research so you understand what you're disabling.
Also for other help, you can right-click a program and select "Search online." Windows will open a web search page with the name of the program and its .exe file, allowing you to determine exactly what the program is and what it's doing if you're not sure. The "Open file location" option will show you exactly which .exe file on your computer is starting at boot.
Way 5: Enable Windows 10 FastStartup
Here is how to use the Hybrid Startup and Shutdown options:
- Activate this option from Control Panel > Power Options.
- On the left panel, click on Choose what the power button does.
- Select Change settings that are currently unavailable.
- You will notice new options under Shutdown settings.
- Check the Turn on fast startup checkbox > Save changes.
