If you have ever been to Perth in Australia you will know what it's like to visit a boring city (I'm only half joking, they have cute koalas in their zoo). Cities aren't the cheapest places to get around in and if you haven't got an exciting reason to get out and about it can be a major drag. So if you find yourself bored in an urban metropolis here are some things you could consider doing!

Escape rooms

Escape rooms are a spreading craze around the world. Essentially they entail a group of people entering a room that simulates a scary scenario using state of the art technology. Strike Escape Rooms provide team building activities in Melbourne and have the 'forensic' room or 'the secret garden' room for example. Your group then has a time limit (up to 60 minutes) to work together to solve clues and find hints in order to 'escape'. It's a good one for a rainy day and will make for lots of laughs.

Movies

Hopefully the city you're in isn't so boring that it doesn't have a cinema (Jackson in Mississippi doesn't have one…). The cinema is a great place to go if you need to chew up two or three hours. They usually have some restaurants around them too if you were looking to make a night of it. Better yet, some cinemas have a 'gold class' option if you want to take the experience to the next level. Gold class cinemas have bigger seats, smaller cinemas and their own bars and dining options.

Find a park

Every city I have ever been to has had a park. Even Perth has nice parks. If you're bored and sick of your hotel room, make your way to the nearest park. Maybe take a blanket and a book, or a packed lunch. Parks are nice environments and there is always something special about lying in a grassy patch surrounded by high rises.

Second hand shopping

Second hand shopping is cheap and fun. It's also a good way to learn about the city you're in. Depending on what's in the second hand shop you can learn a lot about it's passed. For examples if there are lots of ice skates it must mean there is a popular ice skating rink in town. Or if churches run all of the second hand shops it might mean that there is a big religious population in the town. Plus you might find that one off item that you love!

If you're struggling to think of ideas on what to do in your boring city of question, there are a number of websites designed to help you. Likealocal.com is a great one, you just type the name of your city and it will list things to do and places to go. My suggestion is to find the city's 'best' restaurant and eat there while taking mental notes as to why you will never return that city ever again (or whichever boring city you find yourself in).
