TOKYO (Scrap Monster): According to latest data released by the Japanese Ministry of Finance (MoF), the country's stainless steel imports declined considerably during the month of November last year.

Japan's total stainless steel product imports during Nov '15 totaled 13,647 tons, down by 24.9% from the imports during the month before. The monthly imports of stainless steel products by the country had totaled 18,170 tons during October last year.

The largest exporter of Hot Dipped Galvanized Steel Coils products to Japan was South Korea. The imports from South Korea totaled 9,701 tons. The imports from South Korea to Japan dropped considerably by 19.8% when compared with the exports during the month before. When compared with the previous year, the exports declined by 6%.

In second place was Taiwan with total Japanese imports of 2,111 tons. The stainless steel imports from Taiwan plunged by 48.3% over the previous month. However, the imports climbed higher by nearly 17% over the previous year. The stainless steel imports from China witnessed sharp decline of nearly 42% month-on-month to total 708 tons.

The latest import statistics indicate that the scrap imports by Thailand during October 2015 increased modestly over the previous month. However, the scrap imports witnessed sharp decline when compared with the same month a year ago.

The scrap imports by Thailand during the month of October last year totaled 46,000 tons. The imports plunged heavily by 71.1% when compared with the scrap imports during the same month a year ago. The country had imported 159,000 tons of steel scrap during October 2014. Meantime, the scrap imports have increased slightly by nearly 12% over the previous month. Thailand had imported 41,000 tons of scrap during the month of September last year.

The largest scrap exporter to Thailand during October '15 was the US. The scrap imports by Thailand from the US totaled 26,000 tons. The scrap imports from the country accounted for nearly 57% of the total scrap imports by Thailand during the month. The US scrap exports to Thailand dropped significantly by 63.9% year-on-year. The second largest scrap exporter to Thailand during the month was Korea. The imports from the country totaled 2,000 tons, accounting for approximately 4.35% of the total scrap imports by Thailand during the month. The scrap imports from Korea were down by 30.5% year-on-year.

The country's scrap imports during initial ten months of the year 2015 totaled 857,000 tons. The imports during this period dropped heavily by 29.6% when compared with the corresponding ten-month period in 2014. The average monthly scrap steel imports by the country stood at 86,000 tons.

The scrap imports by Thailand are projected to total around 1.03 million tons during the entire year 2015.
