PUTTING THINGS IN PERSPECTIVE

When you write down everything you have it makes you realize what you are living for.  When you feel like you don't have much or that life has gotten hard, take some time to write everything you have.  You'll be surprised to find what you do have.  You'll be surprised at what gratefulness can do.  When I tried this the first time, I could only think of 4 things that I had.  I was in such a low point in my life that I thought I had nothing.  Over the course of the next 15 minutes I found that I had written 23 things and these things were more character-based  than material-based possessions.  When you find out what you have, you have the ability to know what you can do and how you want to use what you do have.  When you know what you have, you now have perspective and perspective is power.

AN ENABLING POWER

When I think about what I don't have or what life hasn't given me, I feel justified to take no action.  When this happens, you will get caught in the trap of self-pity and you will blame circumstances on your current situation instead of making changes.  Gratefulness counters this.  When you don't know what you have, how can you do anything?  You are disabled and will not make any progress in life.  On the other hand, you are enabled and empowered to do something with your day when you know what you have.

FREEDOM

Gratefulness enables freedom.  How does it do this?  When life gets busy (which it always does) do you ever feel trapped?  Do you feel that you are stuck in a hectic schedule driving the kids around, or working on your work presentation, or studying?  Take some time and free yourself from these distractions.  You will find out that when you do this, it frees you from the superficial needs of the day and takes you to a place where things really matter in your life.  If you find yourself becoming bitter, write down everything you have and watch your attitude completely change.

TRY IT

Instead of just reading this, try it out.  One time won't hurt you.  If you try this, give an honest effort and put your heart into this and you will see changes.  I promise if you do this, you will find out what is important to you.  You will find out what matters to you in your life.  You fill find out what you have so you can do something with your resources and you will find a degree of freedom to let go of the challenges in your life.  Let me know how it goes!
