Bullying is a problem that is faced by people of almost every age group across the world. It can be defined as repeated aggressive, verbal, social, physical, psychological and unwanted behavior by a person or a group towards a person or a group of people having lesser power, which is intended to cause distress, harm and fear.

Different types of bullying

Physical harassment is without any doubt a form of bullying; however, there are some other specific behaviors that constitute bullying. Some of these are:

  • Verbal or written abuse: Even verbal or written abuse is a type of bullying. These include name- calling, teasing, taunting, inappropriate sexual comments, threatening and displaying offensive posters.
  • Sexual harassment: Sexual harassment at work, public place or even child sexual abuse have become a common type of bullying that everyone gets to read in the newspaper every day.
  • Homophobia: Another type of it is homophobia. It is hostile behavior towards students of opposite gender or sexuality.
  • Racial and religious discrimination: Treating people with harsh or aggressiveness on the basis of their religious beliefs, race, etc.
  • Cyber bullying: Another type of it that has become quite common in the recent times is cyber bullying. This is harming others using the online media or mobile phones.

How bullying impact people's lives and how can it be controlled?

Since bullying is a negative behavior, it has a negative impact on everyone; whether it is the target, the bystanders or the bully. Bullying is the result of hatred that is filled in the hearts and minds of the bully. There are several reasons why they bully others and some of the major reasons are:

  • Family issues
  • Social issues
  • Cultural issues
  • Being bullied as a kid
  • Institutional causes
  • Complexes
  • Psychological problem

These are some of the most common reasons why a person starts bullying others. It can affect the lives in various ways. A person who has been victim of bullying can suffer from severe depression, get involved in substance abuse, have nightmares, feel wary or suspicious of others, etc. When it reaches the extreme level, there can be a higher risk of suicide. Hence, it is important that such behavior is controlled at the very beginning as it is not helpful for anyone. With the increase in such cases, several Anti Hate Organizations have come up to help put an end to such intolerant behavior. These organizations run Anti Hate Campaigns in schools and colleges with an intention to put an end to such destructive behavior among the youth since youth are considered as the future of every nation. In addition, through such anti hate programs and Campaign against Bullying prevents the children from attacking others and focuses on providing solution to the victims. They are taught how to fight and survive. Today, such programs and campaigns have become quite common in schools and colleges.
