Uae is witnessing unprecedented expansion in the food and beverage industry

The F&B sector in UAE is thriving at the moment, and in all likelihood is going to continue to do so in the near future. The country's food and beverage sector will need to match the pace of increasing demand from hotel and retail projects currently under development. The city of Dubai is one of the top tourist destinations for travelers all over the world, and this fact is evident by the year on year growth in the number of tourists visiting the country. Dubai's Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) has published figures for the same. Last year, 13.2 million tourists visited the country, which represents a growth of 8.2 per cent year on year. "I have found that Dubai has a serious food culture and that is what we are tapping into,"says the celebrity chef Heinz Beck. His statement is backed up by numbers too. Research and surveys in some quarters have indicated that 2 out of 3 families eat out once a week. Other key factors include the increasing spending habits of consumers, coupled with a growing and relatively young population. KPMG estimates the F&B sector will grow an average of 4 per cent annually over the next four years. The burgeoning demand for hotels, restaurants and cafes will undoubtedly be boosted by another major event, the Expo 2020 which will be held in Dubai. It is estimated that around 25 million visitors will set foot in Dubai for the Expo, and from across the globe. The F&B industry is bound to buckle up in order to cater to this growth in demand. It will also encourage more diversity in Dubai's already global offering of cuisines. The growth in UAE's F&B industry is expected to create a ripple effect in the foreseeable future- the demand chain is going to reach all levels of the transaction, from manufacturers and distributors of food ingredients to retail outlets and restaurants. It is indeed a combination of these factors that are enabling the success of the F&B industry, and it remains to be seen how increasing demand will be met by all stakeholders in this phase.
