The "Smart City" Chennai reels under heavy floods and brought to its knees, yet it fights back! The city is marooned and comes to a standstill. From local to public transport, railways, flights to electricity supply, everything is suspended and almost of the aspect of life are affected in the city. The situation can be imagined by the fact that, Hindu, one of the premier national dailies failed to publish the daily edition for the first time in its history since it was launched in 1878. Of course we can't stop something given by mother nature, but we can show resilience. We can keep our cool and cope with the crisis. The best thing brought out of the floods in Chennai is the humanity. It is the superb spirit of the city that even this mighty flood has also not been able to break.
Social Media is abuzz with so many photos of Chennai Floods, which shows us the true spirit of the city. Before some outside help approached, Chennai-ites came together to help the fellow beings. It's so incredibly heart warming to see the number of fellow Chennai-ites opening up their doors to those displaced from their homes. Strangers have came together like friends to help each other in this crises. Such is the devastation caused by this flood that the Indian Army has be deployed for the rescue operations. People from many areas are being moved out of their houses by boats.
Even if the city is down at the moment, it is certainly not defeated. In the wake of the Intolerance debate going on in the country, it is really touching to see a new facet of humanity in Chennai, where Muslims are helping Hindus in more than 7 feet water, Hindus are helping Christians. Christians are helping Muslims. And, all the combinations possible. Nobody care which religion they are from. Nobody care for recognition. They are just human and they only want to save other human being. They only want to help. Mosques, Temples and Churches have opened their doors to everyone. Arms of people have also opened up for the pets. Chennai-ites have proved one thing that their their loving, kind, selfless and generous city never gives up.
Let us extend our generous support and help Chennai inwhatever way we can. Even if we can't help, we can pray for the city and its people to tackle this tough time.
