The 'International Business Machines Corporation' also known as IBM is an American Multinational Technology Company, headquartered in Armonk, New York. IBM is globe's leading manufacturer and marketing agency of computer hardware, middleware and software technologies. Lately, it has also expanded its business in infrastructure, hosting and consulting services in mainframe computer and nano-technology niche.

Launched in 1911 as the Computing-Tabulating-Recording Company via the joint consolidation of "The Tabulating Machine Company, the International Time Recording Company, the Computing Scale Company, and the Bundy Manufacturing Company" and was renamed as "International Business Machines" in 1924.

IBM India

IBM India is a subsidiary of IBM International. Founded in 1992, IBM has established its PAN Indian presence and facilitates from Bangalore, Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai, Pune, Gurgaon, Noida, Chandigarh, Indore, Bhubaneshwar, Coimbatore, Visakhapatnam and Hyderabad.

Within a timeframe of 2003-2007, the company has grown by almost 800% and has become one of the biggest multinational companies with highest number of employees in India.

The Expansion Plan

As a part of their expansion plan, the company has launched its new data center in Chennai. This public data center developed by IBM is dedicated to meet the growing demand of financial and government sectors.

As a part of company's global investment plan, company has invested over USD 1.2 billion and it is second such IBM data center in India. First data center is built in Mumbai, offering private cloud computing services to clients such as Tata Sky, Bharat Light and Power, Janalakshmi Financial Services and Mankind Pharma.

This IBM's 42nd data center and aims to improve its business network, user performance and disaster recovery for business expansion. The company has pre-launched its cloud data center in cities like London, Beijing, Melbourne, Toronto and Dallas.

The Digital India

IBM has launched its data center to support government's digital India campaign and smart city project. The company is also looking to invest in the data sensitive sectors such as banking, financial services and telecom. Microsoft also announced development of its three local data centers with an investment of USD 2 trillion. These FDIs are expected to create hundreds new fresher jobs within Chennai. As a part of its expansion plan, IBM has also partnered with 10,000 startups in association with NASSCOM. According to a recent market study, India will have over 5.2 million developers by the end of 2018 and company aims to utilize this growing network of developers plus startup in the country.
