You can be anxious about something that you are about to do, have a fear for a particular thing or generally have a fear of failing in life and its different areas. Fear comes in many forms, but what is most important is learning to overcome it as fast as possible. What you should remember is that fear can stop you from achieving your full potential and it therefore is important to start working on overcoming it if you are to be any successful in what you do.
Deep breath – This is a very good attempt to overcome the fear you face when you are about to do something. If for instance you are about to step on a stage to make a presentation and you find yourself overly anxious that your palms are sweating and your heart is beating faster, focus on your breathing. Deep breathing helps you relax and reduces the anxiety so you are able to face whatever is before you more confidential. Get your breathing in control and the task will look easier and doable.
Believe in yourself – It simply means getting over the thoughts of failing in what you are doing and focusing more on how possible it is for you to get what you want. Nobody can believe in you better than you and you will only overcome your fears when you constantly remind yourself that there is really nothing that is too hard for you to achieve. Develop a positive mindset that helps you think less of the possibilities of failing and you will start to see your fears fading away.
Understand your fear – What are you so afraid of? Scrutinizing your fears and allowing yourself to dig deep into them puts you in a much better place to handle them and to eventually get over them. When you fear something you are even afraid to think about it, but if you take a closer look at what you fear, you will realize that it is really not as bad as you thought it was. Exposing yourself to the fear makes you understand it better and to overcome it as well.
Take some time out – Are you feeling afraid of a task that is ahead of you? How about taking a little time off? Block out the fear by changing your focus and creating a distraction. You can try walking for a few minutes, calling up a friend or even taking a bath before you handle whatever you have before you. Time out takes your mind off the task for a while and this helps you come back with more force and enthusiasm when you allow some cool off time.
Allow room for mistakes – Sometime what you are really afraid of is failing in what you are doing and so when you allow yourself some room to make mistakes, you will manage to get into it without much fear. Remember, you are human and making mistakes sometimes is allowed and you never know you could actually take a few lessons from the mistakes and be a better you.
To overcome fear you must start by accepting it and then jumping right into it and allowing the worst to happen. You will most times find that you were your own greatest fear.
