Penmanship

When I was a kid at school I was allowed to use only a fountain pen probably during Grade 5 and no ballpoint pen or roller ball was allowed. I always used to wonder why this was the case, teachers would always keep telling us that "it improved your handwriting". However, I really came to know the power of a fountain pen only after many years into adulthood long after school. Just for fun I purchased one at a store and it was a beautifully crafted black Sheaffer. I bought it paying a hefty amount of money and I had just started working and had spent a substantial amount on it. However I never regretted it. I loved the way the pen wrote. It was both stylish and retro. Let me confess, my handwriting has much improved than before, thanks Sheaffer.

Satisfaction

Now, I know that you will throw questions at me regarding the handling of a fountain pen as they can become quite messy. Let me put that question to rest. Firstly, the technology of making these pens have changes a lot since those times where you had to have a dropper to fill ink and you had to shake the pen in order to write or even primitive forms of pens that used dipping in the ink before you write and could get your hands all dirty with ink. Thankfully, there are now improved converters, which have a piston mechanism to fill your ink that makes the process mess free.

Moreover, when you use a fountain pen to write, and provided you select the right one for you, your writing experience could be blissful. Some pens write as if it was butter and they are so smooth on paper. The right amount of pressure and the right paper is essential though to achieve this result. Fountain pens have a tendency to adjust themselves to their owner who writes and as time passes you will receive no cranky feedback (if any) from your pen and just plain heavenly writing!

Hobby

Collecting fountain pens is also a great hobby if you would like to start one. You would be surprised at how many people still write with them all over the world and let me tell you their numbers are only growing. Try Googling about fountain pens and you will see a lot of online stores selling these pens. However this is a niche market and who knows a fountain pen may be just waiting for you to grab it.

So, if you haven't yet had the opportunity to write with one of these beauties, make sure your next pen is a fountain pen and you will never regret it!
