There is a Buddhist nunnery in Dehradun. It runs under the traditional Drikung Kagyu Lineage. This branch of the institute preserves and promotes Buddhism, while also meeting the educational requirements of the area. The Nunnery at present is divided into three levels:
- The preparatory classes
- Retreat College
- Monastery section
The monastery section serves as an educational unit to the new comers and few of the other nuns, who would not prefer going to college for studying.

The volunteering teachers are required to teach for a maximum of 3 hours per day. It is a five days a week job. The Buddhist nuns at the volunteer centers are taught the basics of the English language. The classes do not accommodate more than 10 students and four one-hour classes are scheduled every day. Monday marks the holiday, while there are two classes on Sunday, which means a half day.
English native speakers are not a pre-requisite for the English voluntary teaching position. The teacher is required to develop English speaking skills in the nuns, and not to work on their grammatical skills.
In exchange for the volunteering services, good food and comfortable accommodation will be provided. The volunteers, however, will have to bear the travel expenses. Public transport, flights, buses, trains and taxis on daily and regular basis are available from New Delhi to Dehradun.
