In an ongoing effort to increase heart disease and heart health awareness, XXXchurch is proud to announce their first annual Heart Disease Awareness Scholarship. As an organization, XXXchurch prides itself in spreading emotional heart health awareness by providing resources for online users to make smart choices on the Internet. However, this non-profit also believes that keeping your heart physically healthy is just as important.

According to CNN non-infectious diseases, like heart disease and heart attacks, continue to be the leading killers of Americans. Additionally, recent studies by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have found that when compared to those with normal blood pressure, people with high blood pressure are four times more likely to die from a stroke and three times more likely to die from heart disease.

In an effort to lower that number the CDC, along with other organizations like XXXchurch, are encouraging Americans to know their blood pressure and "make control their goal." Simple steps towards regulation, like not smoking, can go a long way in saving the life of a loved one, but raising awareness is the first step.

The goal of this scholarship is to give students the chance to contribute to this effort by asking them to share their personal experience with heart disease. XXXChurch is also asking students to provide insight on what they think Americans can do to better prevent heart disease.

As heart disease persists as a serious issue in the lives of Americans, Founder of XXXChurch Craig Gross said, "It is our hope that by offering this scholarship we can not only honor the lives of those we, as a team, have lost to heart disease but to also help students do the same."

To apply, students are being asked to submit an essay that focuses on their personal experience, or struggle, with heart disease and state how they think we can work to prevent it. Deadline for applications is June 15, 2016 and the winner of the $1,000 scholarship will be announced on July 1, 2016.

Only students that meet the following qualifications are eligible to apply for the scholarship: 1) you or a relative has been affected by heart disease, 2) you are enrolled in an accredited college or university as an undergraduate, graduate or incoming freshman, and 3) you carry a minimum 3.0 GPA.
