In our everyday lives, we all deal with communication cables. A huge variety of communication cables exist. The main function of communication cables is to send and receive computer data, telephone conversations and photographic images. They prevent interception and interference more effectively than wireless devices. Corded data transmission also eliminates the need for wireless transmitters. They do not need electricity to power them.

The three common communication cables are serial, RJ45 and RJ11.

  • Computer network cables: In the market today, you will find various kinds of computer network cables. The most common is the coaxial kind. The RJ45 is the most common cable found today. It is much thicker than a telephone cord but extremely flexible. The wiring of an RJ45 cable depends on the wiring. It may be directly connected to two computers or can be used to attach a computer to a network device. Most PCs use RJ45 cable for connection to a router or modem.
  • Telephone cables: Most standard telephone cables connect effectively with telephones and dial-up computer modems to their wall jacks. These cables can also carry DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) internet access from a wall jack to DSL modem. A small amount of electricity runs through these cables. RJ11 is the most common telephone cable. It is a thin and flexible wire. Similar to this cable is RJ14, RJ25 and RJ6. They use the same jacks but contain more wires. Additional wires help to carry out two or four separate telephone lines.
  • Serial data cables: Data cable suppliers in India are plenty. Data cables typically have nine or 25 pin connectors and thick cords. These cables are extremely versatile. They help in direct communication between computers, dial-up modems, digital cameras and other electronic devices. They are typically not considered as networking cables. They consist of two wires directly connected to the PC. USB communication cables are another set of cables that are popularly used these days. They perform similar tasks to networking cables. They have the ability to power or charge devices with electricity from a computer or USB power station.
  • Other types of cables: Most other communication cables and data cables can facilitate communication between two devices. For example, a bidirectional parallel cable allows for two-way communication between a computer and a printer. There are also special type of cables to export or import backup files. On the other hand, coaxial wires are used to carry cable TV, internet data and telephone audio.
