In Vehicles

If you're in the market for a durable, yet striking vehicle, consider the GMC Sierra in Kansas City. This 2016 must-have is built to work and to play. Its distinct appearance features GMC's bold new signature LED lighting. The light duty truck was designed to deliver confidence and refinement. In addition to the LED lighting, the latest Sierra also includes a powerful grille and angular wheel openings with accent moldings. If you think the exterior--available in 10 sharp colors--is impressive the interior also boasts visionary design. Engineered for maximum comfort and style, it features a triple door seal that blocks outside noise, and a soft touch instrument panel and door trim, USB ports and a center console big enough to hold your laptop.

It's not just pretty. The Sierra is powerful, too. You can choose between two engines, a 3.5 liter V8 or a 6.2 liter V8. The smaller engine offers the highest fuel economy of any full-size pickup, while the larger engine offers more horsepower than any other light duty pickup.

This truck is the little black dress of automobile design, effortlessly making the change between daytime work and evening fun.

In Music

The Boss is back. Bruce Springsteen is planning to release what he described as "more of a solo project" album sometime in 2016. He announced his plans to SiriusXM Street Radio in late 2015 noting that he planned to hit the road touring in support of the new album. So, there may be a tour and a Boss album. Stay tuned.

In Fashion

Sandals and platform shoes are headed out to make way for ladylike kitten heels. Meanwhile, wide, colorful stripes are likely to appear in spring, if last year's fall runways are any indication of what the future holds. Trendsetters are also likely to sport clothing with ladylike ruffles, bold statement jewelry and kitten heels.

Folks won't be wearing simple neutrals like grey and white. Fashion insiders agree 2016 will be about flirty, feminine patterns like floral prints and bright jewel tones. No one will be casting their skinny jeans aside just yet, but look for 70s style flared denim to make a return.

In Tech

The future is here, and the rise of the robots is upon us. Artificial intelligence, like the technology that powers iOS's Siri, will continue to be incorporated into products, services, and software. That's not the only place AI will be making an appearance, however.  In the upcoming year, robots will be used more and more frequently. A French company intends to begin selling its companion robot, Buddy. Buddy will be a friend to everyone in the family. Meanwhile, other companies are busy testing prototypes for things like at-home cleaning robots and retail assistants.

In Travel

Airline ticket prices are trending downward. Expedia reported that airfare in 2015 was, on average, 8 percent lower than it was the year before, and experts expect that trend to continue in 2016. Experts also predict that more Americans will choose to travel domestically. However, a strong dollar may entice many Americans to choose international plans. Thanks to added hotel rooms in many tourist destinations over the last few years, and new markets opening to Americans – hello, Cuba – and lower airfares, 2016 may just be a banner year for travel near and far.

In Home Design

Stainless steel isn't going away, but it is changing color. In 2016, designers predict the hot, new color in appliances will be a black, stainless steel. Meanwhile, dining rooms are back on the menu. All of those formal dining rooms turned office space in the last few years may be making way for formal, sit-down family meals.

Finally, it appears that the bidet, long a foreign staple, may become popular in the United States. According to popular home design website, Houzz, 5% of master baths now have bidets, and that number is expected to increase.

Those slaves of fashion will be slaves of utility in 2016. From the Sierra in Kansas City to black stainless steel appliances sweeping the nation, all signs point to 2016 styles that don't sacrifice function for fashion.
