Football has never been a popular sport in India. Though there is no dearth of talent and enthusiasm for this sport. The only thing needed was to popularise it and groom the young talent. This much-needed platform was provided in 2014, when IMG-Reliance announced, the formation of Indian Super League, India's unrivalled football league. The sole objective of this league was to give Football its due credit in the country. It was formed with the mission to To engender an entertaining and high quality football league that engages hundreds of millions of fans, drives improvement in playing standards and delivers value for all partners. The league made its debut, with eight franchises/teams, representing 8 regions of India. The teams were, Atletico de Kolkata, Delhi Dynamos FC, Mumbai City FC, FC Goa, FC Pune City, Kerala Blasters FC, Chennaiyin FC and NorthEast United FC. Many bollywood celebrities, industrialists and sports personalties gave support to the league by buying stakes in the teams. The structure of the team is like that each team would have a mix of International and domestic players. It provided a very good learning experience to our domestic players, who had played for the first time alongside such great players across the globe. The league proved to be a success in its first season.

This Indian Football League which got a kick off last year, is in its second season this year. This year the league was started on 3rd October in Chennai with a grand opening ceremony. It's been a month now, that the matches are being played. All the teams are battling it hard in the open to lift the coveted trophy of the Indian Super League. It was Saurav Ganguly's Atletico de Kolkata, which was the champion in the first season. This season the competition is getting fiercer day by day. As of now, Pune FC City is at the top of the chart, but there are still many more matches to be played in the championship.

ISL is a big step in the history of Indian football. For the first time ever, Football scene in the country is so organised and fans are supporting the sport whole heartedly. The association of biggies like, Reliance, Sachin Tendulkar, Saurav Ganguly, Abhishek Bachchan, Ranbir Kapoor, Hrithik Roshan and John Abraham, with this league has given a great boast to the game of Football in the subcontinent.
