We all make grammatical errors at least once in our lives—on a paper we wrote in school, in social media sites, or even in marketing campaigns. But, for brands who are trying to appeal to the masses, it is crucial that they avoid these mistakes at all cost.
However, there were still a few slip-ups that we just can't let go. Now, all we can do is make fun of them. You ready?
1. Nike - (A common "then" and "than" problem)
It's a mistake made by one of Nike's social media specialists. But, there's a saying, "Employees are the face of your company." So, it's still inexcusable.
2. Tesco Pure Orange juice – (Issue with double superlative)
In 2014, a 15-year old schoolboy noticed a grammatical error on the juice cartons. He even went as far as writing a letter to the supermarket to correct this mistake. There goes the "most tastiest" orange juice brand.
3. SodaStream – (Is it "less" or is it "fewer"?)
This SodaStream commercial became controversial for a couple of reasons: first is the blow they made against Coke and Pepsi. Second one is Scarlett's line, "…less sugar, less bottles."
Items that can be counted—like bottles—require the use of "fewer", while mass nouns that cannot be counted—like sugar—use "less".
4. Mitt Romney – (A very embarrassing typo error)
This is the typo shown on the Romney iPhone app. One would assume that someone who claims to care about his country would get its spelling right All. The. Time.
5. Sedano's
Oh! They have "Napkings". They must be good at what they do.
6. Kmart
What would children think when they see this sign? "My teacher was wrong," that's what.
7. H&M
Oh the irony of this shirt. So much "genious" it's overflowing.
8. Old Navy
They had time to put two exclamation points, but didn't bother to add an apostrophe?
9. Miller
The people who did this billboard were enjoying a few bottles. We should forgive them for interchanging letters "t" and "c".
10. Burger King
I didn't know Spongebob transferred to Burger King. Darn it!
11. KFC
I'm going to have to decline your loaded "bowels", Colonel. It's nothing personal.
12. McDonald's
That's not their worst…this one is.
I don't know what the branch's problem was, but this kind of sends the wrong message.
13. Hardee's
Oh, apparently it's a trend.
It's one thing to make a mistake, it's another to make a mistake in public, and it's a whole other thing to make a mistake in public when everybody's eyes are on you.
