End of the year 2015, saw Chennai paralyzed by the worst flooding in a century. The city was marooned and came to a standstill. From local to public transport, railways, flights to electricity supply, everything was suspended and almost of the aspect of life are affected in the city. Thousands of Chennaites have been forced to abandon their homes and displaced into relief camps and other temporary shelters. It's true that we can't stop something given by mother nature, but we can at least help rehabilitating! As Chennai is slowing limping towards the normalcy, rehabilitation is the need of the hour now. Chennai would definitely move on and come out of this difficult phase with brave face.

Over a month, many organisations have started the fund raising campaigns for the Chennai flood victims. One such event is Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam International Walkathon/Marathon, Charity Run For Underprivileged sports person and Flood Relief in Chennai on 14th February. This marathon is organised by Amma Sports Foundation of Chennai. With the aim of revitalizing sports in India, ASF provide a platform for the young ones to show case their talents and revolutionize Indian Sports. Amma Sports Foundation was started on the national sports day on 29th August 2015 and it was inaugurated by the Honourable sports minister of Tamil Nadu. Sports awareness on wheels was flagged on the 1st September 2015, which touched all 32 districts in Tamil Nadu, and concentration was on Schools, Colleges and public places.

Chennai Marathon is an initiative by Amma Sports Foundation to help rehabilitating victims of Chennai flood. The walkathon is of 2 km and the marathon is 10km. The registration money that is collected will go to the flood affected victims of Chennai. This event will be held at Marina Beach on 14th February. Participation is open for everybody above the age of 15. The winners and two runners up will be felicitated also. With the sole aim of rebuilding Chennai, this marathon/walkathon is a strong step towards Chennai flood relief. Also, in the walkathon, Amma Sport Foundation is attempting to break the current world record of maximum women participants to completing a walkathon of 1.6 km. The marathon will also contribute towards the Underprivileged sports persons in India. Some part of the money will go towards their training and grooming. With Walkathon, the Amma Sports Foundation wants to celebrate the women empowerment in India. Chennai needs us all. Let's walk/run for Chennaites.
