Research suggests there has been a huge increase the practice of such activities and the main reasons attributed to this shift in taste are the monotony of an ordinary gym routine and sometimes even its ineffectiveness. Therefore in kickboxing has become a big thing in Delhi.
When it comes to fitness classes there is no denying that the amount of options that are available to the layman are infinite how ever they get narrowed down to a few, such as kickboxing classes or yoga classes because of easy accessibility to training facilities and the buzz created by the media. When movies/news papers show us these activities in action, our brains get conditioned to not only accept them but place them on a pedestal. At the very least all fitness enthusiasts would like to do a kickboxing class just out of curiosity.
Lesser-known facts of Delhi's fitness scene
A facet that not many are aware of is the rapidly growing demand for combat sports in urban areas. Its not news to see athletes emerging out of villages and small towns however what's interesting is that in urban areas about 10% of people who engage in kickboxing classes come with the aim of becoming a professional sportsman. It's such a rigorous and demanding sports that the amount of physical conditioning you need is no joke. Why then would a young man or woman from a well to do family would give up engineering or architecture to pursue a career as a kickboxer?
Experts feel it's connected to greater factors like more flexibility in our culture and social norms that have slowly widened the possibilities in every domain of life. Not many years ago, art was seen as an inferior career choice in many parts of the Indian society how ever there is wide acceptance and respect for it now. Similarly kickboxing and other combat sports have become legitimate career choices in the minds of people. They aren't looked down upon or worse, seen as completely irrational and immature decisions. If a teenager in Delhi tells his parents that he wants to join kickboxing classes to someday become a professional sportsman, he is understood.
THE WAY FORWARD
By the time we hit 2020 some radical thinkers believe the conventional gym routine will have lost a lot of its demand and people will be looking for more functional movements. This places kickboxing and other such classes at the next step in the evolution and optimizing of fitness. We already see this happening to an extent in the west. Crossfit gyms and MMA gyms have taken over the scene. People don't want the body builder look anymore. Its all about stamina, explosive strength and basic health and vitality. It's not long that Delhi and other urban cities of India will follow the trend.
