Ouch. I hurt. I need relief. Fast. We'd all rather reach for a natural solution to pain, but will it really work? Well, considering that aspirin is made from willow bark, yes, a natural solution can be just what the doctor ordered. Here are some all-natural solutions to pain.

Sunburn - The faster you apply any home remedies the better to relieve the ongoing pain from too much sun. A 50:50 solution of vinegar and water in a spray bottle misted on sensitive skin brings instant relief and can be repeated as often as necessary. A more intense approach is to make a compress with a soft cloth or towel soaked in the vinegar solution to lay on the burned area. And to apply something even more substantial, mix equal amounts of apple cider vinegar, plain yogurt, and aloe juice, and lightly massage into painful areas twice an hour for the first three hours after a severe burn. You can also try a thin solution of cornstarch and water to soothe the heat. Listerine isn't a completely natural substance (though its active components are) but it is something you are likely to have around the house. Fishermen swear by it for sunburn pain. Apply with a cloth, or spray it on. Brewed and cooled green or English tea can stop sunburn pain just minutes after you apply it to your skin with a thin cloth or paper towel. You can even make ice cubes of tea and keep them in the freezer, and apply them to areas of sunburn. NOTE: Abbey St. Clare's White Tea Cleansing Milk, which contains both white and green tea, has often been reported to successfully soothe sunburn pain.

Pain and swelling - One of the most classic therapies for pain comes from Australia in the form of Emu oil. This gentle anti-inflammatory is especially effective for recent bruises and muscle injuries. Emu oil absorbs quickly and penetrates into the deeper layers of the skin, bringing relief to the source of the pain. It is also useful for insect bites, arthritis, joint pain, keloid scars, skin grafts, and wounds. Emu oil is harvested as a secondary by product of meat production. Animals are never harvested for the oil alone.

Muscle and joint pain - Chronic pain from fibromyalgia, arthritis, rheumatism, and plantar fasciitis is not only painful, it is stressful and depressing. More temporary pain from exercise or injury is more tolerable, but it still requires attention. We spent a long time figuring out what relieves pain; the result is a synergy of pain relieving actives in our St Luke's Pain Relief. We combined 18 essential oils that are known for their pain-relieving properties, including ravensara, basil, oregano, pine, and eucalyptus. We added peppermint to make the gel cool, while at the same time using ginger and black pepper to provide penetrating warmth.

Pain is often a result of tense muscles, which hinders the body from sending healing substances to the painful area. The first reaction to any pain should be to relax, breathe deeply, and rest. Use gentle massaging motions to apply remedies and let your body and mind work together for recovery.
