For many years Christ Embassy International has been at the forefront in helping the world deal with the problem of indigent children. The ministry, steered by internationally renowned evangelist Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, offers its child-centered programs through its Inner City Mission (ICM) arm. This organization offers a variety of services aimed at reaching out to the 57 million children of school-going age who are not in school. ICM has its own school which offers primary and nursery school kids free quality education. The B.R.I.D.G.E program and the Back to School initiative are among other programs ICM has put in place to give indigent children hope of a brighter future.
The Christ Embassy Church recently announced that it was taking care of approximately 10,000 kids through ICM. This impressive statistic was announced by Mr. Yemi Morakinyo on behalf of the Warri zone head of Christ Embassy, Pastor Siji Dara. He also noted that 57 of the 10,000 children were adopted in Warri. The announcement was made during a media briefing that was part of the 2015 Reach Out Nigeria (RON) event. Themed "Dawning a New Nation", this years RON had many activities for people of all ages including free medical services, a football tournament and youth empowerment activities. At its core this event, which is now in its eighth year, aims to reach the entire Nigerian nation with the message of the gospel. This is according to Pastor Ciji. To this end, 30 million copies of Rhapsody of Realities will be distributed in the course of the 2015 RON. The people of Warri will receive 2.5 million of these over the next three months.
One of the many beneficiaries of Christ Embassy International's ICM program is Mrs. Oluchukwu Nwosu, a widow. Her three children are not only able to attend school, they get three square meals a day, keeping them healthy enough to focus on their studies. And the results are clear to Mrs. Nwosu: "I noticed that my children started looking healthier and smarter after they started attending the school. They are also now more intelligent. Before they came to this school, they had problems with their academics, but now, they are doing well because they are well taught by qualified teachers." Clearly the sentiments of a happy mother. ICM schools have also been a blessing to Mrs. Nwosu personally as they have eased the financial pressure on her, better enabling her to offer her children the best in life.
Noble as its goals are, ICM was not founded simply to offer access to food and quality education to kids who could otherwise not afford them. The Inner City Missions for Children are a direct response to the divine calling on Pastor Chris Oyakhilome' life. He firmly believes in everyone taking care of the children around them, especially those unable to fend for themselves. As the man-of-God says "every child is your child".
