Christmas or holiday fires have killed hundreds of people and have injured over thousands each year. Do you know how much damage has been caused by this fire? These holiday fires have caused over millions of dollars in damages just because people are not watching what they are doing. You need to keep your family and your home safe by watching what you are doing or what other people are going to do,so how do we keep safe over Christmas?
There are ways to help you stay safe around the holidays. If you have a real tree and you put lights on it, be sure to keep the tree away from the plug-ins and make sure the cord is long enough to reach the plug-in. Make sure there are no shorts, cuts, or any lights missing because only half of it will work and that can start a fire. Don't overload the plug-ins because that can overload the circuits and blow it out, or it can cause a fire to the plug-in itself. Make sure the tree is not dry or too dry, and make sure the needles are hard to pull. That means it is good, and it is safe to put in your house. You have to take precautions when you bring a real tree in your home because if it catches on fire, it will burn fast and will spread toxic gases that are deadly to invade your home, which can cause harmful things to your body. So watch what you put on the tree and also check if there are any burned out lights. If there are, do not use them because it is very dangerous. Be sure the tree is away from any heat vents, fireplaces, wall heaters, candles, and space heaters. Do not use lit candles or light a candle on a tree because that will cause a fire to happen.
Don't put wrapping paper in the fireplace because it can shoot out sparks, and the paper will burn very fast. This is not safe to do at all, so don't do it. Don't throw bows, toy boxes, or anything else for that fact because you don't want to cause a fire in your home and endanger your family. If you get an artificial tree, don't use anything flammable. Get a flame retardant tree so it will not catch on fire. Also get ornaments that are flame retardant as well to be on the safe side, and don't put so many lights on the tree because that is hazardous. The use of candles * Candles sure look pretty to look at when lit, However, mishandling them or leaving them be may prove a great risk. So, make sure never to leave a lighted candle without somebody watching over it. * Use stable candle holders when lighting candles and put them in places where young children could keep from reaching them. Also, make sure to place the candles where it could not be easily knocked off. * Never place a lit candle on a Christmas tree, as this is sure to ignite flames. * Put off candles whenever you leave the house. Lastly, install smoke alarms on every level of the house and possibly fire exit signs for visitors. Make sure to test them once every month to ensure they are working and be certain to have new batteries in store in case the old one runs out.
