Whereas a current tourist visa for Thailand allows for one to three entries, the new METV allows unlimited border crossings during its validity period. However, to limit foreigners from essentially living in Thailand on a tourist visa, each entry on the METV is limited to 60 days. The METV costs Bt5,000.

The Ministry of Tourism and Sports is hoping the METV will promote Thailand as a destination for weekend vacations and encourage business people to visit Thailand more often.

Those planning to visit Thailand and wanting more information about a visa can contact Thai embassies or consulates abroad, while those already in Thailand can contact an immigration office or visit a Thai or international law firm in Thailand which can offer valuable and well-founded advice on the Thai visa service process.

These firms offer a range of Thai law, Thai labour law, legal, accounting, immigration, auditing services and other general services. Some of them specialize in helping foreigners in obtaining a Thai visa and/or Thailand work permit, and for those employed in Thailand, in tax consulting and filing of personal income tax and starting a business in Thailand.

Foreigners who are working in the kingdom will often use a Thai or international law firm in Thailand to assist them in filing their personal income tax return each year, which they are required to do by Thai law the same as their Thai colleagues.

One such company is BSA Law. "Those seeking more information about the new six month multiple-entry tourist visa are welcome to contact our Thai visa service section. Likewise, we can help with information and assistance concerning the various type of visa available to Thailand", said BSA Law spokesman Apisakdi Kongkangwanchoke.

For those looking at starting a business in Thailand, BSA Law can also provide valuable insight and assistance.

Thailand's Ministry of Tourism and Sports is forecasting 28.8 million international tourists will visit Thailand in 2015, and the kingdom in November welcomed its 25th million visitor.

Kasikorn Research Centre, meanwhile, estimates total tourist arrivals for the year could exceed 30 million. The research house is a subsidiary company of Kasikorn Bank and conducts tourism and business research mainly on Thailand's economy.

In 2014 Thailand received 24.80 million visitors, representing a drop of 6.54 per cent from 2013's 26.54 million visitors. The lower performance seen in 2014 was blamed on the military coup in May of that year.

2015's bounce back in visitor arrivals comes despite a deadly bombing in central Bangkok in mid August which had threatened to scuttle Thailand's tourism industry.

The 25th million visitor in November 2015 was welcomed at Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport with a special greeting ceremony jointly organized by the Tourism Authority of Thailand, Airports of Thailand, the Immigration Bureau, True Corporation and Thai Airways International. The gentleman from Scotland was presented with a 'Thailand's Luckiest Visitor' certificate, two economy-class return tickets from and to Thailand valid for a year, a voucher for five nights luxury accommodation and a mobile phone with 4G sim-card and seven days internet usage.

The 'Thailand's Luckiest Visitor' greeting events are part of the Tourism Authority of Thailand's 'Discover Thainess' tourism marketing campaign for 2015. This aims to promote the diversity of destinations in Thailand, the flavours of Thai cuisine, the unique culture and traditions and the friendly character of the Thai people.
