Karnataka, also known as the IT hub of India is the home to world's 4th largest technology cluster 'Bangalore'. Apart from its leading Information Technology (IT) industry, this state has several other industries growing at a rapid pace. These industries include automobile, aerospace, textile and garment, biotech, agro and heavy engineering industries. This state also has sector-specific SEZs for some of the major industries including IT, engineering, aerospace, food processing and biotechnology.

In the present scenario, around 80% of global IT companies have based their operations and R&D centers in Bangalore. The gross state domestic product (GSDP) of Karnataka during 2014-15 was recorded around US$ 115.9 billion. The government of Karnataka is also making several efforts to promote the overall industrial growth of this state. To serve this purpose, the government has come up with its 'Industrial Policy 2014-19'.

The vision of Industrial Policy 2014-19

The vision of this policy is to build a prosperous Karnataka through comprehensive, sustainable and balanced industrial development thereby creating enormous employment opportunities. This policy basically aims to maintain an industrial growth rate of 12% per annum. Under this policy, the government is also planning to raise the contribution of manufacturing sector to the State GDP from the current level of 16.87% to 20% by the end of the policy period.

The main areas under this policy are the manufacturing sector, creation of employment opportunities and promotion of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). The other objectives of this policy are:

  • To attract an investment of around INR 5 lakh crore

  • To create employment opportunities for 15 lakh candidates

  • To create an environment that make it easier to do business in the state

List of measures to achieve the objectives under Industrial Policy 2014-19

To accomplish the assorted objectives under the new industrial policy, the government is adopting several measures such as:

  • Creation of superior infrastructure with all-encompassing facilities

  • Human resource development through capacity building and skill up-gradation

  • More focus on encouraging SC/ST entrepreneurs, women entrepreneurs, etc.

  • Encouragement for export promotion

  • Support for research and development and digital direct manufacturing

  • Encouragement for key industries

  • Captivating incentives and concessions

Today, Karnataka state is widely known all over the world in the field of IT, software development and bio-technology. Bangalore, being the most vibrant city in this state with lots of career opportunities attracts a large number of aspirants in search of jobs in Bangalore Karnataka. Since, Karnataka is already on the path of achieving a great success in various industrial areas, the day is not so far when it will become the top most industrial hub in the world.
