There are so many stereotypes in the world, it could drive a person nuts trying to deal with them and break through them. However, there are some stereotypes that have reasons behind why they do seem to be true. Surgeons are notorious for being difficult to work with. This is because they have to make split second decisions and trust their gut rather than ask people nicely what they think about a situation. Don't hate it. It could save your life one day. Like any other job, Denver IT jobs come with their share of stereotypes. Some of them are true, and some not so true. Either way, here are some ways to know if that IT job is the right fit for you. 

Us Vs. Them Mentality

Many times in the workplace, there could be one or two people who annoy you to no end. Unfortunately for you, it can be whole departments that drive you, and the coworkers you work more intimately with, insane. There is always that one department who is constantly calling to have their computers worked on and complain about the new programs even though the new one is so much better. They probably ask you several times why an update had to be made. After explaining computer science to them for half an hour and how different versions of different systems cannot communicate effectively with each other, you will watch their eyes glaze over and you realize you've lost them.

This is why many times there is a bit of a divide between the IT department and every other department in a business or workplace. You may think that they live solely to make your life miserable and they may think the same about you. It's okay though, because you both excel in your job even if you don't respect each other. 

Meeting Impossible Deadlines

Something that should be in your job description is that you will have to meet impossible deadlines on the daily. People who work with programing computers know how much time and effort go into coding and that sometimes upgrades and downloads simply take time. There is no way to speed things up like they do in the movies. Unfortunately, your coworkers and, more importantly, your boss don't always understand this. They are constantly throwing impossible requests in your direction as if you are the mastermind of the universe. You are constantly being asked, "Could you have this done within the hour?" No. You could not. Maybe you could get it done by the end of the week. Other people have no perception of how much time computer problems take to fix. 

Good Listener

This may surprise you because you might not be a huge fan of listening to other people's problems all day like you do. However, this is part of the job, is listening to people's complaints and problems. You may not love it, but you have learned to deal with it over the years. 

Your coworkers complaining to you about a new update or a new program that they have to now work with is similar to a customer telling a grocery store clerk that the price of bananas is too high. The clerk doesn't make the prices, the clerk doesn't care about the prices, and it is likely that your complaint will not be heard by management any time soon. As an IT person, you are used to hearing things similar to this and you learn to just roll it off your shoulders while making your coworker feel like you care. In your Denver IT jobs you have become very good at saying "I'm sorry you feel that way" convincingly.
