At the time of Post World War II, the concept of choosing players and running a game based on their year to date statistics was a hobby until Wilfred Winkenbach formulated fantasy golf or fantasy sport in 1950. The drastic change in this sport appeared in 1980 with the development of the Rotisserie League Baseball. However, according to research, a group in Southern New Jersey have been following the same style league since 1976 and thus were the pioneers, as the first Rotisserie baseball players.

 At present time fantasy sports has caught North America by storm, fuelled by dot com boom. Data says that the millions and millions of people are taking part in this type of gaming every year. The Fantasy Sports Trade association stated that the number of participants in North American Fantasy Sports has risen to 56.8 million in 2015 which is roughly 14% of the US population and 19% of Canadian population (age 12+).

For instance, former Hollywood screenwriter and Fantasy Life author Matthew Berry started in the industry as a hobby but later adopted it as his profession; he earns by providing analyst services and regular appearances on sports television broadcasts. The popular television series The League is based on a group of friends playing fantasy sports.

Though fantasy sports games were started by a group of men, the growing number of women participant shows that it is also appealing to women.   According to studies, women have adopted this fascination in droves. They even enjoy taking part in daily fantasy sports where they win real cash every day.

 Fantasy sports have become fantasy life in a way. With its rising popularity and obsession, the desire and intensity to play daily has shot up season to season, sport after sport. They are following the players and sports throughout the year, if not Baseball then Football, if not Football then Basketball. Each day, there are people winning hundreds of thousands of dollars and those who don't win, can come back the next day and try again.
