All candidates with at least 55 % marks, without round off, in post graduation or equivalent examination from universities recognized by UGC can sit for the UGC NET exam. For backward classes, belonging to non creamy layer, SC/ST and person with physical and visual disabilities only 50 % marks are needed in post graduation or equivalent from the recombined university.
Candidates appearing in the post graduation exam or candidates who have appeared in the master's degree exam but are waiting for the result can also sit for the UGC NET exam. Candidates, whose results have been delayed due to some reason, can also take UGC NET exam.
However, all such candidates have to show the passing degree from their master's exam with 55% in case of general category and 50 % in case of other backward classes, non creamy layer,
ST, SC students and persons with physical or visual disability. All these candidates have to complete their master's degree exam within two years from the date of declare of NET exam result. If these candidates are not able to get the required marks, fixed according to their categories, then they shall be treated as disqualified.
The Ph.D. degree holders are given relaxation of 5% in aggregate marks, 55% to 50%, for appearing in UGC NET exam.
In case of candidates, whose master's degree level subject is not in the list of given subjects, can appear in the subject of their graduation level. Candidates can choose any subject, but it is better for better preparations to select the subject of their qualifying exam.
Candidates who have post-graduate diploma or certificate awarded by any Indian University or Institute should ascertain whether this diploma or certificates is equal with the qualification needed for UGC NET exam. Similarly, candidates with diplomas and certificates from foreign institutions should also ascertain the equivalence of their diplomas and certificates before appearing for UGC NET exam. The CBSE can demand proof of eligibility of a candidate and if he or she fails to satisfy the UGC CBSE, legal action can be taken against them.
