Don't be irrational- Often the distance and the lack of physical presence may make you idolize your partner. You may tend to forget that your partner has flaws and is as human and normal as you are. Taking this to the extreme will make it difficult for you to get acquainted with your partner when you actually meet her.

DO'S-

Keep each other up to date- Just because there are miles of distance between the two of you, you should not keep each uninformed about your lives. On the contrary we suggest that you share with each other every little details about your lives. This will keep the relationship alive. For this purpose you could use a variety of communication methods, be it mails or texts or chatrooms. If necessary try out everything and see which mode of communication suits you the best.

Try and visit as much as you can- If you are living in separate cities and it is near to impossible to meet once a month, at least try to meet each other as frequently as possible. When you meet make a specific plan from beforehand and stick to it. Make sure that you spend most of the time being with each other and communicating rather than getting involved in any sort of activity.

Be interactive- Just like a regular relationship, in a long distance relationship you will get closer to each other only if you share your likes and interests. Try and get to know your partner as much as you can. And tell your partner everything about you, even your secrets. In spite of the distance this one small act will make you feel closer to each other.

DON'Ts-

Don't be irrational- Often the distance and the lack of physical presence may make you idolize your partner. You may tend to forget that your partner has flaws and is as human and normal as you are. Taking this to the extreme will make it difficult for you to get acquainted with your partner when you actually meet her.

Don't leave room for mistrust- The word in town should be that you are cent percent devoted and faithful to your partner, even though they are far away. If you have committed a mistake, your partner will love to hear you confess about it to them rather than have to hear about it from someone else. If necessary frequently use emails and other Social Networking sites to let the world (and your lover) know about your whereabouts.

Don't keep things hazy- It will be the very best for both of you if you make a clean breast of things before even getting into the relationship. Make sure that you tell each other what your expectations are out of that relationship and how you would like to make the relationship work. Together, embrace the shortcomings and decide to make the most out of it. If these things are not cleared out at the very onset then you are bound to face a lot of complications and emotional turmoil.
