The idea of casual dating isn't new but it has exploded over the last twenty or so years mainly due to the internet. Casual dating is when two (or more) consenting adults who have never met before agree and arrange to meet up for a date, after which they part company and may or may not ever meet again. (This is where the saying "No strings attached" or "NSA" comes from).

However, before the dawn of the internet casual dating was carried in the usual sense whereby people would go out to bars, pubs, clubs and the local disco and such other social places "On the pull!" so to speak. But today with the internet, it's far easier and more convenient to do it online as there are literally hundreds of online dating websites catering for this type of activity. In fact it can be done from the comfort of your own home, on your mobile, tablet or anywhere where there is access to the internet.

There are of course those people who are against casual dating due to their morals and beliefs, but even so, many do partake in the activity, but what are their reasons and motivations behind their actions?

For many it is just a simple case that their lives are just too busy for a full-time or full-on relationship, maybe with their job or other vocations in life and simply find it more convenient to call upon the services of a casual date whenever they can either find the time or simply when they want to go out or have some adult fun. Some people may have been hurt in a past relationship and do not want to get emotionally involved again. Please note that it is a misconception that casual dating is just for those who want sex. For some it may just be a way of finding friendship or company because they may not have many social circles.

Of course, with casual dating there can be complications and consequences. There are many professional and governmental departments that do lay blame on the rise in STD's (Sexually transmitted diseases) due to the rise in such dating websites and mobile apps. But of course, if consenting adults wish to take part in these activities it is well within their right do so and it is up to those individuals to take whatever precautions are necessary.

Then of course there is the scenario whereby one of the participants becomes emotionally attached to the other, after all we are humans and it is quite natural for us to have feelings, even when this is not supposed to happen in casual dating. This can lead to emotional distress and upset, especially when the other person is not interested. In some very extreme cases it can lead to stalking and such like.

But overall, casual dating, whether you like it or not does seem to have a useful place in society, it just needs to be taken for what it is and with some caution.
