Ahead of the commercial rollout of 4G service, Reliance Jio launched the cheapest Voice over Long-Term Evolution (VoLTE) enabled mobile phone in the country.
It is named Flame 1, under the LYF brand, and is priced at INR 6,490. This makes it INR 1000 lower than the current cheapest VoLTE phone. Reliance Jio had earlier launched 1 model of the high-end Earth phone and 2 models of the mid-range Water series phones. It will soon launch its Wind series phones that will be cheaper than the Water phones.
Specifications of Flame 1 Phone
The Flame 1 phone operates on entry-level Snapdragon 210 chipset, which offers good performance. The chipset has 85% power of mid-range Snapdragon 410. The phone has a RAM of 1 GB. Both, primary and secondary cameras of the phone have a resolution of 5 MP and 6x zoom. The front camera is capable of taking good selfies.
The display of the Flame 1 handset is 4.5 inches, with a resolution of 4.1 lakh pixels, which can be inferred as218 dots per inch. The phone has a built-in memory of 8 GB, which can be expanded to 32 GB. It comes with a battery of 2000mAh power, which will be enough to run the phone throughout the day. The operating system of the phone is Android 5.1 Lollipop.
Freebies with the Phone
Apart from the hardware, the LYF branded phone has other advantages. Once Reliance Jio rolls out its 4G service, the company will offer free data, SMS, and voice packs on the phone. It may offer 30 GB of free data. Experts say that the freebies offered with the Flame 1 phone are worth INR 5,000, making it one of the best buys in terms of value for money.
It is expected that the yet to be launched Wind phone will have 50 GB of data and 5,000 minutes free. The phone will be priced around INR 9,000 to INR 10,000.
The Flame 1 phone will come with the Reliance Jio network. It will support all three bands of 2300 MHz,850 MHz, and 1800 MHz. The phone will let users make calls over Internet Protocol, with the same dialler used for regular calls. Users may easily make calls over Wi-Fi connections to save money.
Reliance Digital Store
Reliance Digital is the main distributor of the LYF branded phone. Reliance Digital is the electronics arm of the retailer, Reliance Retail, which belongs to the Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries.
Currently, Reliance Digital has not put the phone on sale online. It only offers a registration facility. Users need to enter their personal details, such as their email address, phone number, city of residence, and preferred Reliance Digital store.
At present, Water 1 and Earth 1 phones are available at Reliance Digital outlets in a number of major cities across the country. Reliance Jio may officially launch its services between March and April, this year, which means that buyers can look forward to enjoying the freebies in the near future.
