2015 is now a thing of the past. Past is what we all have and past is what has lead us to the circumstances we have. Past is there to guide us, but it doesn't necessarily define us. At times, our past haunt us holding us back and keeping us from enjoying our lives to the fullest. We need to let go of the past, but it may not be as easy as you may think. But we can at least try. Below are a few steps that can you let go and move on.
1. Now is the time
The first and most difficult thing to do is separate yourself from your past. After all, past is something you own and this ownership doesn't seem to let you let it go. Maybe, your past is full of pain and sufferings, but what you need to do is stop suppressing it. Make yourself understand that it's time to let go.
2. Acknowledge Your Emotions
We are humans and when we are hurt emotionally, we feel as if we there is something sharp inside us that is damaging us. What does this mean? The pain is a message from our inner self that encourages us to learn from the past, let it go and move on.
Of course, healing takes time. However, the process of healing wont' start unless we acknowledge our emotion and then look forward to the future.
3. Deal With Your Anger
We tend to get mad when our feelings are hurt or things don't go as planned. Holding onto anger for too long will keep us trapped in the past. So, how can you deal with anger?
You can vent your anger by screaming at a tree or punching a pillow, or you can just go for meditations techniques. Another good way is to consult a therapist or counselor. It will take you some time to control your anger, though.
4. Work on Your Feelings of Guilt
As a result of the anger, you may need to feel the guilt, especially when you realize that you had been unfair to someone. Guilt is when we realize that we violated the ethical code we established for ourselves.
Whit the feelings of guilt, we may end up hurting the feelings of everyone around us. As a matter of fact, guilt is a kind of feedback that we get to learn a lesson and then let it go. Guilt is not something we should hold on to. Instead, it is something to learn a lesson from.
5. Learn to Forgive
Forgiveness is the key to "restore" our relationships. To let go, it is important that you forgive others as well as yourself. Without doing so, you can't move on. The thing is that forgiveness is something that benefits us. It clears our vision and lets us breathe freely.
So, if you are still holding onto your past, now is the right time to let it go. With the 5 steps given above, you can get it done.
